Jury Notes - This is a project that doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is. They took an existing building that was simple and brought it back in an elegant form and transformed its use. They brought it back for new life but they did it in such a way that it belies the detail and the care that must have gone into the craftsmanship of this space to make it so lively and so warm. The simplicity of the detailing on the lower floor allows the elegance of the roof structure to almost be like a crown within this space and draws attention to the beautiful angles and joints. It's just so simple and perfectly well done. I think that absolutely wonderful gothic architect, Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, said it best, "Less is More."
